The SFA-WD-100 Back-to-Back Converter has been designed for driving variable speed PMSG based wind turbines. The intelligent control enables the performance of the drive with the very fast torque control and active damping solutions to reduce the mechanical stresses and fatigue in the drive train. The converter is characterized to comply with the local grid codes and is also being developed in accordance with the latest international grid code requirements. Modular design allows the converters to be paralleled to cover the power ranges from 300 KW up to 2 MW, thus improving the system reliability and efficiency. With some modifications in the control algorithms and system configuration, it is also possible to use the same converter for wind turbines with the DFIG and SCIG technologies.
